The EU has begun enforcing new restrictions on PFHxA, its salts, and related substances under the REACH Regulation. Since October 10, 2026, affected consumer products—including clothing, footwear, accessories, cosmetics, and food-contact paper and cardboard—must meet specified concentration limits to be placed on the EU market.
The restrictions apply at or above 25 ppb for PFHxA and its salts combined, or 1,000 ppb for PFHxA-related substances. Products placed on the market before October 10, 2026, are covered by a transitional exemption for this phase. Further restrictions on other consumer textiles are scheduled for October 2027.
For cross-border sellers, product testing, supplier documentation, and material traceability are increasingly important. Businesses should confirm compliance before shipping goods to the EU and check whether specific exemptions apply.
